Eating Well in Tuscany

Eating Well in Tuscany

I recently wrote a story about Locanda di Casal Mustia in Castelmuzio in southern Tuscany, not far from Pienza.

I decided to arrive unannounced the other day for lunch to see if the kitchen was still turning out its delicious dishes or was my first visit there a passing moment of inspiration by Giulia Guerri; the chef who weaves magic here. I’m delighted to tell you that the magic is still there even on a cool, overcast day with few people about.

I would go there again just to have another plate of her stuffed ravioli cooked to perfection in sage and butter; however I might try her ceci soup with pasta the next time and there will be a next time. I’m also curious to try the Tuscan stew now the cold weather has arrived and once again I see no need to “splash” out on a bottle of red when their house wine is delicious.

Their deserts are excellent as is their coffee which is not always the case in restaurants and I’m told Giulia will be putting on a Christmas lunch with added dishes and a special menu for New Year Eve. I think I’ll know where I will be come that day.
