Enoteca dell'Orcia

Castiglione d'Orcia

Tuscany

Having returned to Italy post Covid I have become more determined than ever to make Perfect Traveller the “go to” platform for those traveller’s who want authenticity, value for money and to really eat like the locals.

I want to tell you a story about my first visit to Castiglione d’Orcia where I was introduced to Marino who owns and runs Enoteca dell’Orcia with his wife, which they opened in June, 2017.

Their continuing passion is to provide a lovely location to enjoy some of the best wines that are produced in this area that now come under the Orcia DOC denomination label. Added to this fine selection of reds and whites is a small selection of Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Tuscan whites and rosé wines.

Visitors from all around the world, including many Italians, make their way to Tuscany to discover the beauty, history, and art of this important region. Food is on everybody’s agenda of course. Although the traditional Tuscan kitchen might be a little heavy for many, particularly in the summer months.

Marino has created a menu at Enoteca dell’Orcia that is varied, delicious and goes hand in hand with his wines. There is an extensive selection of bruschetta and crostini with a delectable choice of toppings. I like the crostini with pecorino cheese and truffle cream. There is a good assortment of soups and when I was there recently, I had the ribollita which was cooked to perfection.

Perhaps a salad to enjoy with a still, chilled white wine in the shade might be more to your liking? Ask Marino to surprise you with a salad that is not on the menu, by giving him a suggestion of the ingredients that you wish to taste, and he will bring out a salad that will make you smile.

This is not fine dining. This is dining well in the surrounds of a quiet, livable village in a beautiful part of Tuscany. Enoteca dell’Orcia is a place to relax and unwind and slow down. Where nothing on the menu is over 12 euros.

A perfect place for you to eat and drink like the locals.

Tips

Enoteca dell’Orcia is a great place to enjoy a fine selection of wines, by the bottle or glass, together with a delicious selection of pasta dishes, and bruschetta.

The food is fresh and very local. For those of you who want a break from the big, heavy Tuscan meals of meat and heavy sauces, this is the place for you.
